Craft Hoarding Symptom: "Dupes"

What is a "dupe?" Well, my craft-hoarding friends, you probably have many in your craft supplies!

It's a duplicate item that you bought because the thing that you needed was:
  1. under a pile and you couldn't find it when you needed it, so you went out an bought another OR
  2. you were out shopping, and bought an item, not realizing that you ALREADY HAD IT in your stash.
Yep, DUPES! You know you got 'em.

What items are "dupes" in YOUR craft room? Tell your story in the comments section. You know we won't judge you here......

And if you DO leave a comment, you might win one of my "dupes" pictured below.

Standard giveaway mumbo-jumbo:
  1. Chances of winning based on number of entries
  2. Giveaway will close Friday, December 2, at 12PM EST.
  3. Winners will be notified via the email and the Craft Hoarders Facebook Community
  4. I assume no guarantee with shipping.
  5. US residents of the lower 48 are eligible. I pay for shipping, and man, it's pricey. Don't get cranky because I'm not rich, ok?

  1. Believe it or not, I really don't have any!!! Oh, I do, I have two sets of stamps that I bought each twice! Darn, I thought I was good!

  2. I've bought duplicate stamp sets more than once! They became gifts!

  3. I have bought books and have given the extra ones as gifts!

  4. I did this just this weekend. I bought a paper stack thinking I can't believe I've never seen this before, and when I got home I went to put it away and there's the very same one staring up at me. Lol!

  5. Is it sad that I intentionally purchases a dupe. I did up an SEI album in a box for my niece and I loved it so much that I ran right out and bought the same one again ... now I only have sons .... so the magenta flowers ... well, let's just say it will probably go to another niece :-)

  6. Thought I was the only dope that had "dupes"! I find myself being drawn to things in stores I already have. Guess when I like something I really like it!

  7. Luckily, the only dupe I've ever ended up with so far was a Stampin' Up ink refill. I bought mostly their stuff for years so I'd make a shopping list from the catty - easy to track. Now that I'm buying from other companies, everything seems so novel and unique that I seem to remember most of it. :)

  8. I intentionally buy dupes, such as Exacto knives. Each has a dedicated purpose- one for fine line detail work, and the other for misc. cutting projects, like heavy stencils. To mt, they are like scissors. No way can my fabric shears be used for paper or plastic. Other dupes are certain paints and mediums not readily available at a local store. They're backups- just in case!

  9. I just had to buy new fabric scissors because I moved in March and either haven't unpacked my old ones yet or don't know where they are!

  11. I'm hanging my head in shame. Not only have I had many, many "dupes", but also several "trips". I think I need to do more creating and less shopping! :)

  12. I have dupes of basic acrylic paints. I go and pick what I don't think I have and what colors call my name the most. I came home with 8 new tubes of paint thinking I had new colors for my collection, half of them I already owned.

  13. Oh yes....I am laughing out loud as I look around at the hoarded items- beads that I just love and keep, thinking I will have the "perfect" project just for them (of course, I have had them 5 years now). Papers, beautiful and hidden away, waiting in the dark, for something...Duplicates of paper pads, stamps, inks because I haven't seen the originals in months-therefore I never had them. My ghost will stand with head hanging as my relatives dig through my studio and ask, "Why did she have 14 charcoal pencils?".

  14. I buy dupes on purpose, then I have no remorse about giving them away as gifts. Otherwise, my scrap cave would be even worse than it is.

  15. I bought a perfectly wonderful book called The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolff. Went to put it on the correct shelf of my bookcase and there was another copy already there. Of course, my daughter was thrilled at my mistake because it meant that she got the dupe.

Right now I am resisting buying a second Fingertip Craft/Hobby Knife because I know I'm going to find it in a safe place sooner or later.

  16. I purposely buy dupes of some items so I can leave my scrapbook tote ready to go when I teach scrapbook classes. I have an extra Gypsy cord, Cricut spatula, tape runner, paper pads, etc. But once I tried ordering a Cricut cartridge and the owner emailed me to verify as I ordered the same cartridge two days before (had not yet received it) ~ now that is some awesome customer service!!!

  17. I have two different sets of stamps I have duplicates of - one I forgot about, another I won two ebay auctions at the same time (I thought I lost one). I also have duplicate books, magazines, and I'm sure other craft supplies. I really need to keep a list!

  18. I have repurchased craft supplies many times. Sometimes I don't remember that I already purchased it. Sometimes it was because it was easier to buy again than look for it!!!!

  21. Hi, Jenny

Dupes, I don't have much of those. The dupes I am guilty of is having too much ribbons. I have way too much, just in case. I have a couple of bins of them. Thanks for sharing your dupes.

  22. Hi, Jenny!

My "dupes" would be paper! I never think I have a certain kind, color, or style and I get home...boom - the same paper! Recently it was purple 12x12 cardstock. All I could do was laugh.

  23. When I have a double of something I usually someone else that can use it. There was one time when I KNEW I had more 12x12 Cricut mats . . . spent time looking for them and gave up and went and bought some . . . the next day I found the ones I had, mixed in with my scrapbook page refills.

  25. Oh, I am notorious for putting things away...very carefully...so I'll remember where I put them the next time I need them (which might only be 3 minutes later), only to NEVER be able to locate them again! I do have to say, I'm pretty amazed that I don't end up with many dupes, considering the amount of shopping...I mean, "collecting" I do! Especially the $1 sections. I swear, those bins have tractor beams hidden in them!!! I get sucked in every time. :o] Doris

  27. So you truly want to know about the 6 Trumpet die cuts that were so cute I had to have one - from six different shows, or the 4 packs of paper from Bazzil that are actually all the same purchased from two different shows, or that set of pentel pens I just had to have, three times .... Although I think the best one is when I just HAD to take that class at the CK convention, once in Portland, once in Seattle ... didn't realize I had taken it in Portland the same year .... You know March and November are REALLY far apart ... Should I go on, the week long organization project I did when I first got my Scrap Rack was a total "Dupe" fest ...

  28. books - I hate it when the publishers re-issue a book with a new cover. I see the authors name and buy and then realise I have read it before.

  29. How about 6 Cricut cartridges, 5 Tim Holtz embossing folders and countless paper packs (altho' some of those are accidently-on-purpose!)

  30. I know I don't qualify for the prize, as I am in Canada, but I wanted to share: I have bought many an arting supply because the thing I needed was not where it was supposed to be...as in - I forgot where I 'filed' it so perfectly! Nice and safe and never to be found again, so off to the store!
